Curious Meets Her Compliment (for my husband)
There once was a little girl who was very curious. She wanted to understand everything.
One day she realized she could not figure out where the air stopped and the sky began.
She decided to investigate.
First, she went to her friend the scientist. He began to explain molecules and cells and spacious gas. She listened very hard but did not understand anything he was saying. She asked him to slow down to help her but he just kept going. It was all too complicated.
Second, she met an artist. When she asked him what he thought, he told her that it wasn't important what the answer was, it was more important that she asked questions. "Just look around and see all the beauty. Questions don't have answers they just have more questions" He said. She thought he had nice things to say but she was still curious.
Next, she went home to ask her mom and dad. They were so happy that she came to them with questions that they forgot to tell her the answer. "You can always ask us anything honey, even if they are heard questions." they said, but they did not tell her the answer.
Finally, she found a little boy who looked about the same size as her. He was playing outside and she said, "have you wondered where the air stops and the sky begins?"
He said, "Yea, I think they might be the same thing."
"Oh, well how do we find out?" She asked.
"Maybe we should jump as high as we can until we see if there is any difference?"
So they did. They didn't get very high.
"We will never be able to jump high enough." The little girl said.
"Well maybe if we stay friends forever we can keep trying as we get taller. I can help you and you can help me." The little boy said.
"What if we never find out?"
"What if we do? Besides, even if we don't, we will always have someone to jump with."
This is fun, thought the little girl. I am still curious but now I'm not the only one.
Curious Gets Creative
One day a very curious little girl was coloring.
She used lots of different crayons in many different shades. She realized the colors looked a little different on white paper than they did on red paper.
I wonder how different the colors would look on something other than paper, she thought.
She decided to investigate.
First, she tried the table. It was made of wood. She drew a heart with every color. The crayons did look very different on the brown wood. This made her more curious.
Second, she tried the walls. They were white so the hearts were the same colors as they were on the white paper, but the walls were bumpy which was very fun to color on.
Next, she tried the kitchen cabinets. They were yellow. The colors looked very different on the cabinets too!
Finally, her mom came in the room.
She screamed louder than a blow horn. The little girl got in lots of trouble.
“I just wondered if the colors might look different on different things. I had to investigate. I didn’t mean to do anything wrong.”
Her mom eventually explained to her that she should color on different kinds of surfaces that were made for coloring but not all over the house.
They went to the store and bought lots of different types of paper, even special kinds for artists.
The little was very excited and her mom gave her specials markers that will only show up on special paper.
Just in case she gets curious again.

Children's Stories, Short Stories, and Poems
Anyone ever played?
In this children's game, known as sardines, one person hides and everyone else seeks. Once a seeker finds the hider, they join them. My hope for this blog is that one will find it and many will join. I am an aspiring writer, so please read the short stories to friends and children you love and let me know what you think! Enjoy!

Mud Pies
Mommy makes mud pie.
It's chocolate, gooey, and sweet.
Everyone eats it and says "my, oh, my!"
I make make mud pie too.
It's soil, sand, and dirt.
No one tries it, I don't know why?
Yesterday I had mommy's mud pie.
I ate the whole thing!
I felt sick, "ohhh my ohhh my."
Today I had my own mud pie.
It was super yucky!
And I got dirt in my eye.

Balloon Artist
One day Howie was walking down the street and he spotted a single yellow balloon floating through the air.
Howie’s favorite color was yellow so he began running for the balloon with full force!
Howie runs funny.
The balloon and Howie met halfway, and with a quick look around to make sure no one would miss this priceless piece of joy; Howie grabbed it and carried it home.
The balloon was helium filled and so it was always floating. Floating at Howie's side that is.
The yellow balloon and Howie were always together and Howie began to love his companion.
The balloon was bright and always a good conversation piece. For example, “where is that balloon from?” or “what is that balloon for, any special occasion?”
Howie was very shy and he liked being able to talk to people about something that he didn’t have to think about to hard.
Howie was very happy with his yellow balloon.
He loved riding his bike while carrying the balloon with one hand (he could not yet ride with no hands) and pretending he was a unicyclist.
Howie dreams of being in the circus when he grows up.
One day Howie got some ice cream from the ice cream truck and saw a puppy outside. He decided he really loved the puppy.
He didn’t know where you get puppies but decided that a balloon that looked like a puppy would be great too.
Howie asked lots of smart people: his mom, his dad, his grandpa, and the ice cream man, “how can you find puppy balloons?”
They took Howie to the circus and sparkles the clown changed his life.
Howie watched with careful attention as this clown blew up balloons and then twisted them into shapes! She made puppies, elephants, kittens, monkeys, any animal you can think of.
When he received his first yellow puppy balloon he knew he wanted to have animal balloons forever!
His yellow balloon and his puppy balloon did not last forever, but his dream did.
That is the story of Howie, the boy who became a balloon artist.

Feathers, The Giant Oak
Stacey and Molly are best friends. They play together almost everyday after school. First, they eat two bags of fruit snacks each and drink a tall glass of chocolate milk.
Then, they run down the road to a big park with lots of fun things to play on: slides, seesaw, monkey bars, and even a balance beam!
But, there is one particular structure that is easily the favorite. A huge oak tree, Stacey and Molly named Feathers. (Because sometimes in the wind, his moss looks like feathers)
Today after school was a very important day. The girls were finally going to climb Feathers.
“It's just that when I get up close, it looks so high and so hard.” Said Stacey
“It's not hard, I’ve seen all the other kids do it” said Molly. Molly was not afraid of much. She had made up her mind that today was the day and nothing would stop her. Well, almost nothing.
The girls stood there looking up at Feathers thick branches moving with the breeze. Molly tied her shoes tight and began her climb, one limb at a time. She put one foot on the lowest branch and used her arms to pull herself up. Everything looked ok until she got about halfway.
“I can’t find another branch I can reach. That one is too far and this one is too high.”
Stacey was nervous. She stood there on the ground shaking in her pink jelly shoes. She was trying not to watch but actually kept watching.
“I’m going to try to get the high one! Here goes nothing!” In an instant she stretched and just about the same time the wind came soaring through.
Molly only had one leg touching the tree and Feathers was shaking her off. It was as if he was upset with her and did not want her company anymore.
She lost her grip and with a scream, fell to the ground with a thump. “Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!” She cried.
The wind ceased and Molly began to cry. “I think I hurt my arm. Will you help me home?”
“Yea, are you ok?” Stacey closed her eyes for the actual fall but was very scared for her friend.
Through her tears, Molly smirked, “I’m guess so, but I HATE that tree!”
As the girls walked away Stacey took a glance at Feathers, who seemed to be looking back at her! He had two spots that looked just like eyes and he was shaking his branches they way her mom shakes her head.
The next day, Stacey went back to see Feathers. Unsure of what she was to find, she sat down under his shade and waited. Now Stacey was used to having Molly with her in the park so naturally she began talking to herself.
"I sure am glad Molly is OK and I'm glad that I didn't climb yesterday." She said to herself.
Just then, one of Feather's branches seemed to swoop down and wrap itself almost all the way around her!
"Now, just because Molly fell down doesn't mean you can't climb." She heard a deep voice say. Normally Stacey would have been scared out of her wits. But something inside her seemed calm and the voice calmer.
"Is that you talking Feathers?" She asked feeling very foolish for thinking so.
"Why, yes it is Stacey. I’m glad you came to see me today."
"Wow! You can talk?"
"Well, today I am talking to you. May I tell you something?" Feathers' branch tickled Stacey's leg and she began to feel like she was sitting in the lap of her great grandfather.
"Yes you can tell me something."
"Molly was trying to climb higher than she should. I don’t like when kids do that."
"What do you mean? Did you make her fall?"
“No, no. I was simply moving with the wind. She fell because her legs were too short to reach. You see, Stacey, as you grow your legs will grow and you will be able to do more things like climb trees or run faster. But when you are still growing you can't always make it to the top."
"Oh I see. So, if I climb until I can't reach and then I stop, would that be ok?"
"Yes of course! I am here for you to enjoy. Just like you are doing right now, sitting in my shade on a sunny day. You can climb to a safe spot and relax."
Stacey tucked in her shirt and checked to make sure her jelly shoes were on tight. She took a deep breath and began her climb. One step at a time she made progress.
She got to the third big branch and took a look around. "Its beautiful up here!" she thought to herself.
Stacey gazed at the many limbs growing up towards the sky. She reached her arm up to touch the next one and just grazed it with her fingertips.
She put her two feet against the trunk and spread out across the branch out into the open air. "I think I will stay right here on this branch."
The branch curled around her perfectly so she wasn’t afraid at all. "At least for now..." she said with a smile on her face.
