Children's Stories, Short Stories, and Poems

Anyone ever played?

In this children's game, known as sardines, one person hides and everyone else seeks. Once a seeker finds the hider, they join them. My hope for this blog is that one will find it and many will join. I am an aspiring writer, so please read the short stories to friends and children you love and let me know what you think! Enjoy!

Balloon Artist

One day Howie was walking down the street and he spotted a single yellow balloon floating through the air.

Howie’s favorite color was yellow so he began running for the balloon with full force!

Howie runs funny.

The balloon and Howie met halfway, and with a quick look around to make sure no one would miss this priceless piece of joy; Howie grabbed it and carried it home.

The balloon was helium filled and so it was always floating. Floating at Howie's side that is.

The yellow balloon and Howie were always together and Howie began to love his companion.

The balloon was bright and always a good conversation piece. For example, “where is that balloon from?” or “what is that balloon for, any special occasion?”

Howie was very shy and he liked being able to talk to people about something that he didn’t have to think about to hard.

Howie was very happy with his yellow balloon.

He loved riding his bike while carrying the balloon with one hand (he could not yet ride with no hands) and pretending he was a unicyclist.

Howie dreams of being in the circus when he grows up.

One day Howie got some ice cream from the ice cream truck and saw a puppy outside. He decided he really loved the puppy.

He didn’t know where you get puppies but decided that a balloon that looked like a puppy would be great too.

Howie asked lots of smart people: his mom, his dad, his grandpa, and the ice cream man, “how can you find puppy balloons?”

They took Howie to the circus and sparkles the clown changed his life.

Howie watched with careful attention as this clown blew up balloons and then twisted them into shapes! She made puppies, elephants, kittens, monkeys, any animal you can think of.

When he received his first yellow puppy balloon he knew he wanted to have animal balloons forever!

His yellow balloon and his puppy balloon did not last forever, but his dream did.

That is the story of Howie, the boy who became a balloon artist.
