Children's Stories, Short Stories, and Poems

Anyone ever played?

In this children's game, known as sardines, one person hides and everyone else seeks. Once a seeker finds the hider, they join them. My hope for this blog is that one will find it and many will join. I am an aspiring writer, so please read the short stories to friends and children you love and let me know what you think! Enjoy!

A Series With Curiosity

Curious Meets Her Compliment (for my husband)

There once was a little girl who was very curious. She wanted to understand everything.

One day she realized she could not figure out where the air stopped and the sky began.

She decided to investigate.

First, she went to her friend the scientist. He began to explain molecules and cells and spacious gas. She listened very hard but did not understand anything he was saying. She asked him to slow down to help her but he just kept going. It was all too complicated.

Second, she met an artist. When she asked him what he thought, he told her that it wasn't important what the answer was, it was more important that she asked questions. "Just look around and see all the beauty. Questions don't have answers they just have more questions" He said. She thought he had nice things to say but she was still curious.

Next, she went home to ask her mom and dad. They were so happy that she came to them with questions that they forgot to tell her the answer. "You can always ask us anything honey, even if they are heard questions." they said, but they did not tell her the answer.

Finally, she found a little boy who looked about the same size as her. He was playing outside and she said, "have you wondered where the air stops and the sky begins?"

He said, "Yea, I think they might be the same thing."

"Oh, well how do we find out?" She asked.

"Maybe we should jump as high as we can until we see if there is any difference?"

So they did. They didn't get very high.

"We will never be able to jump high enough." The little girl said.

"Well maybe if we stay friends forever we can keep trying as we get taller. I can help you and you can help me." The little boy said.

"What if we never find out?"

"What if we do? Besides, even if we don't, we will always have someone to jump with."

This is fun, thought the little girl. I am still curious but now I'm not the only one.

Curious Gets Creative

One day a very curious little girl was coloring.

She used lots of different crayons in many different shades. She realized the colors looked a little different on white paper than they did on red paper.

I wonder how different the colors would look on something other than paper, she thought.

She decided to investigate.

First, she tried the table. It was made of wood. She drew a heart with every color. The crayons did look very different on the brown wood. This made her more curious.

Second, she tried the walls. They were white so the hearts were the same colors as they were on the white paper, but the walls were bumpy which was very fun to color on.

Next, she tried the kitchen cabinets. They were yellow. The colors looked very different on the cabinets too!

Finally, her mom came in the room.

She screamed louder than a blow horn. The little girl got in lots of trouble.

“I just wondered if the colors might look different on different things. I had to investigate. I didn’t mean to do anything wrong.”

Her mom eventually explained to her that she should color on different kinds of surfaces that were made for coloring but not all over the house.

They went to the store and bought lots of different types of paper, even special kinds for artists.

The little was very excited and her mom gave her specials markers that will only show up on special paper.
Just in case she gets curious again.
